everything about tableau data tab

How to get data in tableau?

If you open the tableau then you will get this page. To do work, at first you have to get the data. To get data you have options which are in the green marked. You can get data from pc or any server. To get data from pc go to the red marked area and then click on the file type according to your file type. To get data from the server go to the blue marked area and click on the server according to your need. After clicking a dialog box will open. Give the information to get data from the server.

After getting the data this page will be displayed.

Black marked area:

Here you will get information about sheets like how many sheets are there, sheets name, etc. If you take the cursor to the sheet name then on the right side of the sheet name a new option will appear. If you take the cursor then you will see that option name as view data. If you click on that then a dialog box will open and in that dialog box, you will see that sheet data. In the dialog box, you will see the row numbers on the left top side. Now if you go there and type 10 and click the arrow sign present on the right side then only 10 rows will be displayed. If you type 20 then 20 rows will be displayed.

Yellow marked area:

Here you will see how many files you have imported into the tableau at the current time. If you want more files then there is an add option. Click on add option to import more files. The selected file sheets will be displayed in the black marked area. If you want to remove any file then select the file and then do right click and there you will see an option remove.

Brown marked area:

Here you can also see the sheet name. Here you can also get remove, rename and open options. If you take the cursor on that you will see a drop-down button. Click on the drop-down button to get these options. Suppose you have multiple sheets and rows of the first sheet are displaying. To view other sheets remove sheet 1 from the drop-down menu and drag another sheet from black marked area and drop it anywhere in gray marked area.

Red marked area:

Here you can see two options. If you click on the left side option then only the table column names will be displayed and if click on the other one then the whole table will be displayed.

Orange marked area:

To sort the table in different order use this option. Go to the drop-down menu to sort.

Gray marked area:

Here we can create connection between tables.

In the image you can see two files. If you click on the test file then test file sheet will be display in the black marked area and if you click on train file then train file sheet will be displayed in the black marked area.To create connection at first my test file is selected. Now I'm selecting train file. Now drag the sheet from blacked marked area to the gray marked area. After doing this a new dialog box will appear.

Now select a column from the first and second sheet. You can select multiple columns. At first, select the columns from each sheet from the green marked area. The connection will be displayed in the blue marked area. After selecting the first column connection you want to delete the connection then click that connection in the blue marked area. After clicking you will see a delete option on the right side, click on that. If you want more table connections then click on the blue marked area and below an option will appear names add more fields. Click on that and create more connections. If creating a connection is done then click on the cross sign of the dialog box. If you want to remove, rename any sheet from the connection then go to Gary marked area, sheet drop-down menu.

Blue marked area:

This is a very important area. Here you have two options one is live and the other is Extract.
Extract:
You can say that it is a snapshot taken of your data at a particular point or it is a snapshot of previous data. You can also say it is static data at someplace. Sometimes what happens is that you don't have any live data but you want to use data that is previously available. In this type of case select this option. Another example is that, you are not connected with the server but have the file in your pc in this you can use the extract option.
Live:
It will connect to your live current data. If the data is available then use live. Suppose your connected with a server. In this case you can use live.

Suppose you add some more columns and cells in the file. Now how do you update that thing in tableau? First, go to the green marked area. After going to that page go to the blue marked area and do right click there. You will see a refresh option. Just click on that. This option is applicable for live data. To extract data go to the blue marked area and after right-click, you will see the extract option in the middle. Go to that option drop-down menu. There you will find a refresh option. Just click on that.
